Knowing Your Blood Sugar Range

It can be difficult to determine your blood sugar ranges. You could simply search for information on the internet, but the charts you’d find would be quite misleading because they only touch the general stats of an average adult.

For curiosity and interest, The American Diabetes Association (ADA) generally recommends the following target blood sugar levels:

Between 80 and 130 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or 4.4 to 7.2 millimoles per liter (mmol/L) before meals

Less than 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L) two hours after meals

However, it’s important to mention that many factors, starting from your age, gender, type of diabetes, and your overall health, would fit a whole different scale of numbers. Therefore, it’s important to consult a professional – a doctor that would set the recommended blood sugar ranges specifically for you.

  2. I’m 74, have diabetes, do not take meds and want to control my diabetes with diet, not meds. More info, please.
